Welcome to the website of the NUS Students’ Political Association (NUSPA) –
Singapore’s leading student organization which aims to foster greater political
awareness and active citizenry.
2011 had seen Singaporeans, including many of our NUS undergraduates,
casting their first votes in the General Elections and the Presidential Elections.
Politics had since gained a special place in the hearts of many young
Singaporeans. As Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong opined, Singapore politics
had entered a ‘new normal’. In this pluralistic political landscape, more young
Singaporeans now clamour for opportunities of political participation and
engagement.
Meeting the needs and desires of our NUS students, NUSPA will continue to
provide avenues of political education and engagement with our assortment
of quality initiatives in 2012 ranging from flagship publication – The Diplomat
– to our annual Kent Ridge Ministerial Forum which will be graced by Deputy
Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
As NUSPA continues to maintain our edge at the forefront of student activism,
we will focus on featuring more on the youth wings of the political parties,
their leadership and activists. Leveraging on our status as a non-partisan
entity, NUSPA will seek to bring the political party youth wings together for
constructive engagement, amongst themselves and also our students. The
mutual trust and understanding that we hope to forge amongst the youths
across the political spectrum will definitely bode well for Singapore’s future.
Reviving a wave of campus activism, students can look forward to having
more frequent smaller-scale events to provide opportunities of dynamic
engagement with our invited guests. NUSPA will also harness the collective
potential of our NUS students in generating ideas and suggestions for public
policies as we progress towards a more deliberative democracy.
We hope that you will give us your greatest support by actively participating in
our initiatives and join us in collectively shaping Singapore’s future.
